Civil War Sesquicentennial: Events News

There are a myriad of events taking place for the Sesquicentennial, some of which will precede the July 21-24 Manassas based activities.

Battle of Blackburn Ford,  July 18, 1861

Speaking Event:  At 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, local Civil War historian Mark Trbovich will discuss “First Blood, Battle of Blackburn’s Ford” at the Blenheim Visitor’s Center, 3610 Old Lee Highway, Fairfax, VA.

Wreath Laying:  At 11 a.m. on Monday, July 18th, The Bull Run Civil War Round Table will participate in a wreath laying for the dead at the Battle of Blackburn’s Ford site at the VA Civil War Trails markers off Centreville Road/Route 28 (crossing into Fairfax County from Prince William County, VA).

This will begin the Battle of 1st Manassas campaign week and set the stage for the main battle on the 21st.

Commemoration:  At 7 p.m.on  Monday, July 18th, a Commemoration of the Battle of Blackburn’s Ford will be held at  Bull Run Regional Park, 7700 Bull Run Drive, Centreville, VA.
