BATTLEFIELD TOURS TO FOCUS ON TWO LOCAL CIVIL WAR BATTLES IN 1862
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VIRGINIA . . .
In commemoration of the 149th Anniversary of the Battle of Kettle Run and the Battle of Thoroughfare Gap, the Prince William County Historic Preservation Division and The Turn the Mill Around Campaign are co-sponsoring tours of two historic Civil War battlefields in Prince William and Fauquier Counties. Several tours will be offered throughout the day of each battlefield on Saturday, August 27th, 2011.
Fought days before the Battle of Second Manassas, the outcomes of these two battles contributed to the Confederate victory there. Learn about the tragic story of the men who fought these battles and the current efforts to preserve these two local battlefields.
Tours of the Kettle Run Battlefield will take place at 10am, 11am, 1pm, and 2pm and are free of charge. Tours and special presentations of the Thoroughfare Gap Battlefield at Chapman’s Mill will take place at 11am, 1 pm, 3pm and 5:45pm, admission will be $5 per person.
The Battle of Kettle Run Tours will be held at Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park at the corner of 10th Alabama Way and Iron Brigade Unit Ave. in Bristow, VA. The Battle of Thoroughfare Gap Tours will be held at Chapman’s Mill at 17504 Beverley Mill Rd., Broad Run, VA 20137.
