The Victorian Dance Ensemble, the performing troupe of the Civil War Dance Foundation, has three special Christmas programs coming up in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Virginia in December. Attached are flyers with more information on each of the events.
On Saturday, December 7, we will be in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, presenting a Civil War Ball as part of the Harpers Ferry National Historic Site Christmas Program highlighting the historic town in 1864. The ball will be a recreation of one held by the 34th Massachusetts Infantry. From 3:00PM to 5:00PM, visitors to the Park will be able to step back into history and discover how people had fun even in the midst of “the fiery trial” of the Civil War. No dance experience is required; all dances will be taught by the Victorian Dance Ensemble. Period music will be played by Wheaton’s Parlor Orchestra.
On Sunday, December 8, we will be in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, for the Gettysburg Foundation’s Christmas Fireside Tea at the GNMP Visitor Center. Enjoy tea and luncheon by the roaring fire in the Refreshment Saloon while the Victorian Dance Ensemble demonstrates the popular dances of the 1860s to the music of the Susquehanna Travellers. Guests will even have an opportunity to join in and learn a dance. Reservations are required.
On Saturday, December 14, we will be in Winchester, Virginia for the Victorian Candlelight Ball sponsored by the City of Winchester Department of Parks and Recreation. This is a free family friendly event. This will be a “teaching ball” and no dance experience is needed. The Victorian Dance Ensemble will demonstrate and teach traditional Victorian dances to the magical sounds of the Susquehanna Travellers. Period, casual or formal attire. There will also be caroling, holiday treats and plenty of dancing.
Special thanks to all of you who attended the National Civil War Ball on Remembrance Day. We had over 400 guests dancing to raise money for preservation at Gettysburg National Military Park! Visit our website for photos of the event.
