The 11th Annual Civil War Preservation Ball was a great success. Dancers came from near and far to dance in the rotunda of the Pennsylvania Capitol Building on March 29. This year, we raised over $8,500 for the monuments at Gettysburg National Military Park. This brings the eleven year total to $75,000! We were very pleased that the new GNMP Superintendent Ed Clark and his family attended this event and joined us in dancing for preservation.
If you missed the Preservation Ball, you will have another chance to support Gettysburg National Military Park by attending the National Civil War Ball on Remembrance Day, November 15. This ball has raised over $72,000 for the Park. The ball begins at 8:00PM at the Wyndham Hotel, 95 Presidential Circle, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Tickets are $20 per person in advance or $25 at the door. To purchase tickets, make check out to “SVR Remembrance Day Ball” and mail to: Brig. Gen. Henry E. Shaw, Jr., 27 Griswold Street, Delaware, OH 43015-1716. Telephone: 740-369-3722. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include your email and a stamped self-addressed envelope for the return of tickets. Tickets orders received after November 8th will be distributed at the door.
Join us at GNMP over the Memorial Day weekend. On Saturday, May 24, we will present our “Guns of Gettysburg” display. On Monday, May 26, we will present dance demonstrations and civilian artifact displays. See flyer attached to the newsletter.
FREE Civil War Dance Manual in PDF format is available by email to help you prepare for dances and balls. We originally developed this manual for the Civil War Trust’s Teacher Institute. It provides basic instruction in several easy formation dances and has links to online videos and period dance manuals. Email us for a free copy.
