Prince William, VA-Discover Prince William & Manassas in conjunction with the “America Rising” television series held a flag-laying ceremony at the Quantico National Cemetery to highlight the work of the Missing in America Project. Over 100 motorcyclists and celebrity NASCAR Driver Geoff Bodine, host of the show, gathered in Section 22 to place a flag and remember those that are part of the MIAP project. Speakers caught on film included Chairman of the Board of County Supervisors Corey Stewart, President/CEO of Discover Prince William & Manassas Ann Marie Maher, Director of the Quantico National Cemetery Steven Fezler and Virginia State Coordinator of the Missing in America Project Brigitte Corbin.
The “America Rising” series is a 13 episode, patriotic documentary featuring Celebrity NASCAR Driver Geoff Bodine and The Rolling Thunder® Inc. Flame of Freedom Ride as a cross country ride to the world’s largest motorcycle demonstration. The series being filmed by Iceman Productions Roger Piggott, has the focus to honor our troops and veterans. It is scheduled for broadcast in early 2015 on over 210 television stations including WTTG FOX 5 and WDC MY20. Prince William County was chosen as a destination to highlight due to the rich military history. The film crew also filmed at the National Museum of the Marine Corps and Carmellos in Historic Downtown Manassas.
“With the series we want to showcase our armed forces and it is hard to find a region that can match Prince William & Manassas with its military heritage,” said Roger Piggott of Iceman Productions. “From the National Museum of the Marine Corps, to the Quantico National Cemetery and the Henry Hill House at the Manassas National Battlefield Park, we want to show viewers the connection with these great American military landmarks which are all located here.”
The MIAP is a national, non-profit which gives military reunions the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to honor America’s veterans. With flag-laying ceremony’s attendees can learn about the MIAP’s work and then have the experience of placing flags on the graves of the once unclaimed veterans which are now buried at Quantico National Cemetery. As a national program, the MIAP locates, identifies and inters the unclaimed cremated remains of American veterans.
